He’s an athletic monster with almost incomparable physical traits. On paper, Watson is an ideal Matt LaFleur wide receiver. The threat of what he can do is already in the minds of defensive coordinators. He might not be there yet, but second-round pick Christian Watson has the skills to add another dimension to this offense. We’ll need to see the receivers share the burden and stress enemy defenses to make Jones’ (and A.J. Jones is the best offensive weapon Green Bay has, but he won’t be able to carry the load alone. Not replaced the current Davante Adams clearly, but at this point, it’s undeniable that Christian Watson as a rookie is far more impressive than Davante Adams as a rookie. That is ridiculous.Įven more ridiculous, despite that start he has now essentially done it. We expected him to come in and replace literally the best wide receiver in the NFL on Day 1. This is a kid who played small college football(albeit an absolute powerhouse in that world) and had an injury history. Chris Simms famously stumped for him after the draft pick, but we all should’ve stepped back and had a discussion about the situation. But that doesn’t stop us from wanting it.Įveryone knew Watson had all the tools. Their performances have created a standard unlikely to be met by many players. What Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase have done is unbelievable. As fans, we’ve been spoiled by rookie wide receivers in the past few years.
